RESIDENCY
Artist Residency at 18th St Arts Center, Santa Monica, CA: 02/2010 - 10/2012
Artist Statement: Karl was accepted as a full-time resident artist at 18th Street Arts Center where he began his first post-graduate series of paintings. The paintings, subconscious in origin, begin as abstract amalgamations of subtle geometric elements fused with organic shapes created by contrasting colors, high contrast shading, and obsessive line work. Karl uses his art to communicate with the audience with the intention of exposing the viewer's subconscious thoughts; his work plays with “Rorschach like” elements. Karl's psychoanalytical intention is amplified by amorphous imagery that engages the individual's imagination and inspires transformable intuitive perceptions.
